W810 and MP3 ID3 Tags Question

I''m having some issues with the tags of some MP3s.
When i transfer (through Bluetooth to my phone) a certain MP3-file with ID3v2 tags set then the names are getting cut off in the Walkman player.

For example i have this mp3-file DMX - Bring Your Whole Crew.mp3 (download here as example http://up-file.com/download/d71f40640767/DMX---Bring-Your-Whole-Crew.mp3.html ).
When only the ID3v1 tags are set and the ''title'' field is set to "Bring Your Whole Crew", then the full title (Bring Your Whole Crew) is displayed in the Walkman->Artists->DMX->All.

But when the ID3v2 tags are set (as in the download example) then only a part of the title is displayed (Bring Your W) in the Walkman->Artists->DMX->All.

The same thing with the ''Album'' field.

The weird thing is that this only happens with a few MP3 files. Other MP3 files with id3v2 tags are displayed the full titles fine.
So one would say the ID3v2 tags aren''t the problem. But then what is? Anybody else experienced this weirdness?

Yep. It''s not really the way of transfer that''s causing the cut-off.
It seems to be the id3tags use.

What happens with you when you try the example file?

Can someone do this test for me to see if the cutoff problem is experienced in general?

This song (example 1) and this song (example 2) are exactly the same identical song. It's the same file...only one has ID3v2 and one has ID3v1.

The song with ID3v1 (example 2: http://up-file.com/download/d72d9a677945/DMX---Bring-Your-Whole-Crew.mp3.html) can display full title names (even longer than the screen width. It will just scroll).
In the Walkman->Artists->DMX->All it will display "Bring Your Whole Crew".

The song with ID3v2 (example 2: http://up-file.com/download/d71f40640767/DMX---Bring-Your-Whole-Crew.mp3.html) cuts of the name (it seems it can only display like 13 characters).
In the Walkman->Artists->DMX->All it will display "Bring Your W".

I had the same problem but managed to find a solution (in a SE forum thread).

The W810i cannot handle the new id3v2.4 (and id3v2.3 UTF-16) tags properly, which is how your problem files are most likely tagged in. You''ll have to retag your files to id3v2.3 ISO-8859-1, and the full tags will show.

Use mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/), go into Tools-Options-Tags-Mpeg, and in the write settings make sure ''ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1'' is ticked. Then retag the offending files by opening the directory where the files are, select them and save.

Not sure if there''ll be a firmware update to fix this issue. Great phone by the way, I''m using this on the regular commute with a 4GB card (more than enough music in one go for me). Made my dedicated mp3 player redundant, less to carry around.
